Frequently asked questions

What is SoundBound?+

SoundBound is a real-time audio normalizer for your browser. You set a decibel floor and ceiling, and every sound that plays through your browser is dynamically adjusted to stay within that range. Loud parts get tamed, quiet parts get boosted — no manual volume adjustments needed.

How does volume normalization work?+

SoundBound uses the Web Audio API to process all browser audio in real time. When a sound exceeds your chosen ceiling, it gets compressed down. When a sound falls below your chosen floor, it gets amplified. The processing happens live in your browser tab — no audio is uploaded or stored.

What decibel range can I set?+

SoundBound supports dB ranges from -60dB (very quiet) to 0dB (maximum, the loudest possible digital signal). Most users set a ceiling between -6dB and -18dB and a floor between -30dB and -50dB. The exact range depends on your listening environment and preference.

Which browsers and devices are supported?+

The real-time tab normalizer is available on desktop Chrome and Edge, which both support the Tab Capture API required for live audio processing. On mobile browsers and other browsers, SoundBound supports audio file upload — drop in an MP3, WAV, FLAC, or OGG and get a normalized version back.

Is SoundBound free to try?+

Yes. The first 100 users get a free trial with no account required. After the trial, access is available as a one-time $9.99 purchase. No subscription required.

How is SoundBound different from Spotify or YouTube's built-in loudness normalization?+

Spotify and YouTube only normalize audio from their own platform. SoundBound normalizes audio from every source simultaneously — streaming video, podcasts, music players, ads, and more — all within one consistent dB range you define. It works at the browser level, not per-app.
